This Privacy Policy explains how the Newsnote mobile app ("the App", "we") handles your information. Newsnote is a personal news clipping app. It is local-first: your clippings are stored on your own device, and we do not operate any server that collects or stores your content.
(a) Content you create. Article links, images you add or capture, headlines, memos, and dates. This is stored only in the App's local database on your device.
(b) Google account & Google Drive (optional). If you
choose "Sign in with Google" to back up, the App accesses your Google account
email (to show who is signed in) and uses the drive.file scope to
create and read only the backup file it creates in a "Newsnote" folder
in your Google Drive. The App cannot see your other Drive
files. We never receive a copy of this data.
(c) Advertising. The App uses Google AdMob (the Google Mobile Ads SDK) to display ads. AdMob may collect and process data such as a device advertising identifier, IP address, and ad interaction data to serve and measure ads. See Google's policy: policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
(d) Article metadata. When you paste an article link, the App requests that web page directly to read its title and preview image (Open Graph tags). This request goes from your device to that website.
(e) On-device text recognition (OCR). If you use "Recognize headline from image", text recognition runs entirely on your device (Google ML Kit). The image and recognized text are not sent to us or to any server.
(f) Permissions. The App may request access to photos/files so you can pick an image, and uses Internet access to fetch article previews, serve ads, and back up to Drive.
We do not sell your data. Data is shared only with:
Your content stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. Backups remain in your Google Drive until you delete them. For step-by-step instructions, see our Data Deletion guide.
The App is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your data is kept on your device and, if you enable backup, in your Google account, which is protected by Google's security. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
